Judgement

Music does not judge. It does not segregate itself into genres, it just flows on, endlessly, unmarked by time, by the birth and passing of people.

It is us attempting to capture it by marking it into time bars, subdividing it further into note values.

It is us segregating it into different genres, arguing over whether its numetal or emo.

It is us casting judgement on it by saying this is better than that, its too commercial or too indie, heavier sounds better than softer, simple is better than busy.

Ordinary.Extraordinary.

Masafumi Minato

Masafumi Minato is the drummer for Japanese metal band Dead End, and mentor to several notable drummers including Sakura of L’arc~en~ciel.

I have always loved his groove, and his playing. I hope to have the chance to meet him someday, in Japan.

Miles in Stockholm

Feeling sleepless, I put on a recording of Miles Davis in Stockholm 1960, with Coltrane, Stitts, Paul Chambers, Wynton Kelly, Cobb on drums.

Of all the feelings I have about Miles, the one that lingers the most is the feeling of deep in the night, and the lines that make it feel as though it will never end.
